With an expansive catalog of movies, Max’s new arrivals never seem to disappoint its subscribers. Thankfully, next month is no different, as nearly every film heading to the platform is a must-watch for any movie lover. With A-list performances and unique storytelling, every film provides something completely different for viewers at home to dive into. Whether viewers prefer to laugh, cry, or learn something new, the streaming service undoubtedly has something anyone would deem worth watching.
From Academy Award-winning dramas to an original documentary about one of the greatest shows of all time and its creator, Max will deliver in the coming weeks. While there might not be a massive number of options arriving in September, what the platform will have to offer next month is some of the best. With plenty of praise from audiences and critics alike upon their theatrical releases, the movies in Max’s lineup will most certainly draw viewers in and keep them entertained. Everything Everywhere All At Once

Written and directed by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, Everything Everywhere All At Once is a unique comedy-drama that tells the story of a middle-aged Chinese immigrant named Evelyn Wang (Michelle Yeoh). The owner of a laundromat on the brink of foreclosure with a rocky marriage to an overly passive husband, Waymond (Ke Huy Quan), Evelyn finds herself struggling to cope. However, during an unpleasant meeting with IRS auditor Deirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis), she realizes her boring life is actually more important than she could have ever imagined.
As the fate of all existence rests in her hands, she must explore other universes and the lives she could have led if she hopes to save every reality in the multiverse. The film won seven Academy Awards in 2023, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress for Yeoh, Best Supporting Actor for Quan, Best Supporting Actress for Curtis, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. Everything Everywhere All at Once is streaming on Sept. 1.
The Boy and the Heron

The Boy and the Heron, the latest film from Studio Ghibli, was a hit upon its release, winning the Oscar for Best Animated Feature Film. The movie, directed and written by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki, follows Mahito, who enters a dreamlike world shared by both the living and the dead after his mother's passing and his father's remarriage.
Like many Miyazaki films, The Boy and the Heron received praise from critics and audiences, reaching a 97% critic and 88% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. The English voice cast is full of A-listers as well, with Christian Bale, Dave Bautista, Gemma Chan, Willem Dafoe, Karen f*ckuhara, Mark Hamill, Robert Pattinson, Florence Pugh, Dan Stevens, and many others starring in the picture. The Boy and the Heron is streaming on Sept. 6.
Wise Guy: David Chase And The Sopranos

Wise Guy: David Chase And The Sopranos is a two-part HBO original documentary about the creation of the wildly popular series The Sopranos and its groundbreaking place within American pop culture. Created by David Chase, the series is based in part on his mother and his complicated relationship with her. With Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney at the helm, the documentary dives deep into the psyche of Chase and his creative process, as well as his intimate connections and numerous similarities to many of the show’s characters.

Written and directed by Alex Garland, Civil War is a dystopian thriller that follows a group of war journalists from New York City to Washington D.C. amid a new American civil war. With the goal of interviewing the third-term fascist president (Nick Offerman) before rebel forces overrun the capital city and infiltrate the White House, Lee (Kirsten Dunst), Joel (Wagner Moura), Jessie (Cailee Spaeny), and Sammy (Stephen McKinley Henderson) make the treacherous journey across an embattled nation.
Along the way, they encounter factions on both sides and other precariously dangerous militias hellbent on following their own form of American justice. Despite its name, the film offers few details about how the nation succumbed to such a dystopian future. Instead, it focuses on the journalists and their point of view on the devolving American landscape. Civil War is streaming on Sept. 13
I Saw the TV Glow

Written and directed by Jane Schoenbrun, I Saw the TV Glow is a unique horror film about two teens, Owen (Justice Smith) and Maddy (Brigette Lundy-Paine), whose mutual love of a supernatural television show bonds them before it’s mysteriously canceled. Living like any other angsty suburban teens, the pair escape their mundane reality via the glow of the TV light. When their beloved and frightening show offers them a supernatural world beyond their reach, their perspective on the world they know begins to break down. The more they watch, the more the strange show pushes them to question their own identity and the reality in which they live. I Saw the TV Glow is streaming on Sept. 20
