She travelled the world with her job before taking a career break to have a family.When the pandemic hit, the opportunity arose to work at Serco in a national infrastructure and supply role, within the Covid response team.Rachel says:I was responsible for the logistics of getting equipment to sites, working with 120 testing sites, and liaising with the UK Health Security Agency.My previous experience was essential as we were sailing unchartered waters with requirements changing rapidly.It was a real balancing act; the end goal was to ensure there was an absolute minimum of wastage when it came to the demobilisation phase and scaling down the testing operation.We had to develop strategies to dispose of our assets sustainably, in line with our core business values and Serco's social value approach.We donated most of our assets to a combination of local, national, and international charitable organisations, only disposing of what was absolutely necessary. The whole project was a fantastic experience, I was very fortunate to work with people from all walks of life with such varied skillsets, all of whom worked with great passion and dedication.At the beginning of the pandemic, I think most people would agree, it was a frightening time and people felt helpless.I was very grateful to join the Covid response team and make such a positive impact and I am very proud of what we achieved. I do love to tell people about it and it’s something that will stay with me forever!It is difficult to convey the experience, but it was exciting, with things always changing.There were lots of times I was in at the deep end and had to adapt quickly to new projects or new responsibilities.It was such a unique experience which I believe was pivotal for me and my career progression at Serco.Following the demobilisation of the testing contract I then joined Justice and Immigration, moving into a procurement engagement role.This required me to utilise my negotiation skills and my ability to build relationships with stakeholders.Attributes I brought with me and honed working for Serco during Covid.At Serco, it is great to work with people from so many different backgrounds, each with their own unique strengths. I’ve really surprised myself as to how I can adapt to working in a completely different sector. We are all happy to share our experience - something we are encouraged to do - which is something I haven’t experienced before.In the future, I would love to move back into a project management role within Serco and use the skills and knowledge which I have gained over the years. I would encourage anyone to go for it if they’re thinking of joining Serco - you don’t know what you’re capable of until you try, and the opportunities are endless.Rachel Wright #SercoAndProud

Last minute cancellation. No alternatives just cancelled. Yes you offer compensation, yes you offer refunds but you sold a service. You let me (and others down)Connections and partnerships will now be missed. Opportunities will now be missed. Those who need our services missing out. Career planning for the future…where’s the work?? Once you starting looking for where the work is versus where the jobs are the amount of work is staggering. When I talk about opportunities in construction I often discuss the amount of work to be done around infrastructure. Inverclyde, it's time to look forward. We can't keep living in denial and relying on outdated industries. The decision-makers must put in place solutions that address current problems. Moving to Glasgow could mean better opportunities, careers, and stability for families. Inverclyde has so much to offer with two airports just 45 minutes away, a city of 1 million people on our doorstep, 5 trains an hour, and numerous express buses. It's time for Inverclyde Council to showcase these positives and encourage people to look beyond the area for work and at the same time make it their home. With renovated school estates, outdoor activities, and decent housing, Inverclyde should be the type of area that people flock to. If the current Inverclyde Council leadership can’t do that, they should move aside. The last thing we need is being lectured by people( guys) that have presided over two decades of decline.
